The Growth approach
Growth Medical developed as a result of pharmacies’ need to have greater control over the flow of prescriptions from medical centres. As prescriptions are a pharmacy’s core business, it is imperative that it has significant control over their supply.
Any pharmacy that can `self generate’ prescriptions, by having a doctor’s surgery nearby, is able to flourish.
The Growth Medical program manages the establishment and management of a bulk-billed doctor’s surgery strategically near a targeted pharmacy. Depending upon space, most centres will start with a two-doctor facility (employing one at a time) with a bulk-billing capacity.
Growth Medical looks at the community requirements, and makes decisions based upon competitor activity, space availability, market demand and socio-economic factors.
Once agreement is reached on design and budget, the fit out gets underway. Medical equipment is purchased, and installed as the fit out nears completion. The design and fit out typically takes about three months (on the basis that council permits, etc have been approved).
During this time we begin the recruitment process for doctors and support staff (receptionist and/or nurse). As we operate across Australia, doctors can be recruited locally, from interstate or overseas.
The new staff are trained in office and surgery systems. We also establish the computer programs and a practice handbook. As a bulk-billing surgery, we have a positive message to spread in the local community, and with existing pharmacy customers.
Growth Medical manages the public relations activities, with local marketing and media campaigns.
